About the Statue
The Captain Janeway Statue was created by the Captain Janeway Bloomington Collective, formed in early 2019 with the goal of seeing the City of Bloomington, IN honor Kate Mulgrew’s character from Star Trek: Voyager, who will be born there May 20, 2336.
Thanks to fans and donors, the monument became a reality in the form of a bronze sculpture atop a limestone base, plated in steel, with an accompanying display table was designed to serve as a monument to Captain Janeway.
Captain Janeway showed humanity, integrity, and determination in the face of repeated challenges to her principles. Kate Mulgrew’s portrayal of Janeway as a scientist, and her role as one of the first female lead characters in a sci-fi series has inspired girls and women in STEM fields for years. She represents ideals that the citizens of Bloomington aspire toward, and qualities we look for in our leaders. We are proud to honor Captain Janeway’s character in her future hometown.
